About 10 years ago when I used to work for a business magazine, we had subscribed to a newsletter Success Secrets from Mark McCormack’s hugely successful sports management company; from which our editor selected one piece for every fortnightly issue.

Mark’s pieces were always a hit with the desk and though we used only one, most of the times all of them were a good read. I quite like the Rolex advertisement that features Roger Federer, but every time I watch Wimbledon my mind goes back to one of Mark McCormack’s stories about Rolex.

Mark and his company played a vital role in getting Rolex to sponsor the electronic scoreboard and timing system in Wimbledon that we have grown up with. Mark had been trying to convince Andre Heiniger, the then worldwide chairman of Rolex for several years to sponsor the construction of a new timing and scoring system at Wimbledon. …
